Bank of China started operations in Hong Kong in 1917 and regrouped its Hong Kong operations into one entity in 2001, called Bank of China Hong Kong. Bank of China Hong Kong listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in October 2002, with two-thirds of its share capital in free float. The bank offers a wide variety of financial products and services to corporate as well as retail customers, similar to services offered by most regular commercial banks. The Bank of China tower in Hong Kong was also the first building outside of North America to exceed 1000, breaking a record and becoming the tallest building in Asia at the time.
